2005 Fall Street Festival
Craft Fair and Quad-Rod Custom Car and Tractor Show
Craft Vendors and Quad Rod Custom Car and Tractor Show entrants began arriving early to register and set up their booths in the City Park and park their vehicles on Main Street for the days events which began at 10:00 a.m.
The American Legion Auxiliary offered hot coffee and home made rolls at the Legion Hall beginning at 7:30 a.m. and going until late in the morning.
The Hospitality Booth opened at 8:00 in Depot Square to offer coffee and tea and assist vendors to their assigned booths and help them in any way the could to settle in for the day.
About mid morning after the days events began, the ladies in the Hospitality booth took coffee to the vendors.
Later in the day CCA volunteers loaded an ice chest with pop and bottled water and pulled it around the grounds in a wagon to vendors and visitors.
Every kind of item was offered by the vendors to shoppers as they strolled around the grounds and it was fascinating to watch the car show entrants as they pulled into their assigned places and polished up their cars for viewing, each one more beautiful than the previous one.
Trophies were on display at the Announcers stand along with raffle prizes donated by Coleman Company. Other games of chance were available to anyone interested.
The Burgers 'N Brats and trimmings offered by the CCA, Weavers Bar-B-Q, Sharon Ulrichs German foods booth, and Ron Grate's Bar-B-Q all did a brisk business thru the meal time hours.
Cooksey's of Quinter demonstrated Traeger Grills (they donated a grill to the CCA as a raffle prize) by preparing different kinds of grilled meats and offering free samples to taste.
During the afternoon, tours were given of the convent to show the restoration progress and plans explained for the use of the convent, a small commercial cafe on the ground floor and offices and a Bed and breakfast on the second floor.
Rural Telephone's Barrel Train was loaded for every ride, Pumpkin Painting, Face Painting, Coin/Money Hunt, Plinko and a Pinata to take a whack at with a baseball bat kept the kids on the run all day, and Horse and Wagon rides by Chuck and lori Matke all afternoon were fun for the whole family. After the Pumpkin Painting was finished there were lots of pumpkins left, so anyone who wanted to could take free pumpkins home.
The CCA operated a Beer Garden from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. while C&C Sound Systems provided musical entertainment durint the day.
A special performance by Rodney Brannigan playing two guitars at the same time was a real treat for everyone there.
Later, brave souls danced in their winter coats to music by DJ Paul Heskett and had a great time. For the Collyer Community Alliance it was a fantastic experience.
We want to express our sincere appreciation to the vendors, the car show enthusiasts, the many people who came to enjoy the event and especially to every member and volunteer who worked so hard to make the day and evening such a great success.
We thank Leroy and Pam Schmidtberger and Mark and Derek Walt, Steve Ziegler, Jim Shaeffer and Clarence Dinkel for mowing and trimming the grounds, the Collyer Fire Department and volunteers for washing down the streets and the tennis court and Lee Sells for donating his truck and spray equipment to speed up the street cleaning job.
We express our thanks and appreciation to WaKeeney City for spraying the park for us before the event and for the use of some of their 'special' (port-a-potties) equipment at no charge.
Thank you to the cleaning crew, Lorraine Walsh, Annie Ziegler, Ilona Ziegelr and others who worked long hours polishing up the convent in preparation for the day.
To our president Donna Malsom, with her infinite calm at all times, no matter how hectic things became; to Steve & Angie Ziegler and Pam Hamburger for the profound ability to research, plan and organize the event and to Dwayne Malsom and T.J. Kinderkneckt at the Announcers stand for keeping everyone infomed of the ongoing activities throughout the day THANK YOU!!
If I have missed giving credit to anyone who helped in any way, pleas forgive me and know that you are so greatly appreciated.
One final word:
No matter how well the leaders of an organization research, plan and organize an event they absolutely must have the workers to grab the bat, step up to the plate, and start swinging. More than 65 members and volunteers did just that. THANK YOU!!
